Mary Jean Duncan

Dr. Mary Jean Duncan is an accomplished plastic surgeon, faculty member and assistant professor at the University of Ottawa Department of Surgery and Division of Plastic Surgery (2009-present). Dr. Duncan received her medical degree from Queen’s University in 1978 and completed her plastic surgery training at the University of Toronto in 1982.

Her specialty training includes a clinical fellowship in microsurgery at the Toronto General Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children (1982-1983), Visiting Fellow in microsurgery at the University of Tokyo Hospital (1984) and Senior House Officer of Plastic Surgery at the Addenbrooke’s Hospital, University of Cambridge, UK (1985).

Her extensive professional and scholarly achievements include the Order of the Scalpel award from the Department of Surgery, CHEO (2014) and a Teaching Award from the Division of Plastic Surgery, University of Ottawa (2014). She has worked as a Visiting Plastic Surgical Specialist at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Blantyre, Malawi
(1985-1988), the Gweru General Hospital, Zimbabwe, (1994-1997), and the Korle-Bu Hospital, Accra, Ghana (2008/2009). Dr. Duncan has held the position of Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Ottawa Children’s Hospital.
