Liposuction at the University of Ottawa.
Liposuction can be employed to create an aesthetically pleasing form by removing excess fat on the face and areas of the body that do not respond to diet and exercise. Patients who wish to undergo liposuction to remove fat from areas such as the face, neck, flanks, abdomen, thighs, arms, buttocks or breasts must undergo an assessment of their health and medical history to ascertain their candidacy for treatment. A treatment plan will then be developed to attain their objectives. A tumescent liposuction technique is used in which the treatment area is injected with saline, lidocaine and epinephrine to ease the removal of the adipose tissue via the liposuction cannula. This technique minimizes trauma to the surrounding tissues and improves healing. Patients under the care of plastic surgeons at the University of Ottawa will be informed on what to expect pre, during and post procedure to ensure their comfort, safety and optimal recovery.
