Breast lift

Breast lift (mastopexy) at the University of Ottawa

Factors such as pregnancy, weight loss, aging and hormonal changes may cause the breasts to descend or droop, a condition known as breast ptosis. A breast lift procedure repositions and reshapes the breasts to restore them to a familiar and aesthetically pleasing form. In some cases, breast augmentation may be combined with a mastopexy to replace lost volume. The patient’s health and medical history will be assessed to ascertain their candidacy for surgery. A treatment plan drawing from a variety of techniques will then be developed to attain their objectives. This will dictate the incision placement with the aim to minimize scarring. Once the underlying muscle, connective and breast tissue have been tightened and lifted, excess skin is trimmed and redraped and the nipple and areola are repositioned for a rejuvenated and pleasing outcome. Patients under the care of plastic surgeons at the University of Ottawa will be informed on what to expect pre, during and post operation to ensure their comfort, safety and optimal recovery.
